|Caerleon Book 1 - Scenes Past|
Author: Norman Stevens
The ancient town of Caerleon has a long history, beginning life as an Iron Age fortress and expanding over two centuries of Roman occupation as headquarters of a legion.
By 1324 Caerleon had a Royal Charter granted by King Edward II recognising it as an important trading port for both South Wales and Continental Europe, a position which continued until the start of the twentieth century when it was replaced by Newport as vessels became ever larger.
This book gives a flavour of the historic town with a photographic walking tour, starting from the west side of the town bridge and accompanied by a large number of interesting notes to intrigue you further.
